Rare Leucistic Owl
Birding can be very hit and miss, but boy, did we strike a hit when a spotted Eagle Owl suffering from a rare form of leucism was seen with its two owlets just outside the Karkloof Nature Reserve recently. According to Adam Riley of Rockjumer Birding Tours, leucism is a milder form of Albinism and birds suffering from this rarely survive in the wild. However, this one has clearly beaten the odds and is raising two young birds both with normal colouration.
